Opihi College Trip to Eniwa 2010

Sister City in Hokkaido

Japanese Language Study Trip 2010
Timaru District - Eniwa, Hokkaido Sister City Homestay and School Visit

Jenny Cruden, Ashleigh Cook, Rachel Ellena, Victoria Guile, Kataraina Hotene, Anthony Leach, Dallas Saunders, Georgina Yeandle and teachers Natalie Bergamini and Eric Lindblom travelled to Japan for a three week language study trip October 2010. This was our third visit to Japan and it's becoming a bienniel event.

Travel by Shinkansen, local trains, a few buses and a ferry to various cultural highlights in Kyoto, Hiroshima, Nara, Mt Fuji and Tokyo was on the itinerary for the first week and then a two week homestay and school visit in the Timaru District’s sister city, Eniwa, Hokkaido filled out the rest of the three-week tour of Japan. Students lived with host families in our sister city and attended Minami Eniwa High School and Eniwa Kita High School. We are very grateful to the Eniwa Chamber of Commerce for their excellent organisation of our stay and especially grateful to the host families who welcomed us into their homes. We will miss you and can't wait for a return visit.

The trip couldn't have been made without the generous support of our sponsors, the Sasakawa Fellowship Fund for Japanese Language Education and the Asia New Zealand Foundation. And a huge thank you to the Temuka community who generously supported our many fundraising activities.
